Who Needs To Register Under the Food Hygiene Legislation?

Since the start of 2006, there have been new food hygiene laws in place that affect all food-related businesses, including primary producers. It is very important that anybody that has any dealing with food investigate whether they need to register their premise with the local authorities.

If your company has anything to do with food, the chances are that you will need to register with the local authority; this includes manufacturers, distributors, food retailers and caterers, as well as primary producers like famers. Food business operators that do not need to register may still need to be approved by the local authority, including producers of meat (and meat products), milk (and dairy products), fish (and fish products) and eggs.

EU regulations demand that all food business operators register with the local authorities and recommend they do so before opening or commencing business or starting in new premises. Any business that has already registered and has not changed the type of work that they do does not need to reregister.
