Unsafe Clay-Based Products
After warnings that Zam Zam water might contain unsafe levels of arsenic, the Food Standards Agency has started warning consumers against other products that might also have unsafe levels of both arsenic and lead!
Most people are aware of the dangers of lead poisoning, but it is especially important that infants, children and pregnant women are protected from it, as it can impair development of the brain! Associated with increased risk of various types of cancer – bladder, skin and lung included – exposure to arsenic is also something most people should try to avoid!
The FSA has published a list of products containing unsafe levels of arsenic and lead, including many clay-based products. These include bentonite clay products from Naturally Green, Chloe’s Beauty Room, The Superfood Co., Health Leads and Scent by Nature, as well as Seventh Wave green clay and Fangocur Mineral drink. For full information, visit the Food Standards Agency website.
The FSA are urging any consumers with food safety concerns regarding clay-based drinks to contact the manufacturers, declaring that it is down to the manufacturers to ensure their products are safe and legal before distribution. Anybody with any health concerns should, as ever, contact their GP.
